What is an opal triplet? A manufactured opal consisting of three layers. A paper-thin slice of solid natural transparent or translucent-coloured opal is glued to a dark backing of black glass, with a dome of clear quartz crystal glued onto the top. The crystal dome is to magnify and protect the opal. A triplet is less expensive than a doublet as less opal is used. Due to the nature of construction we recommend to avoid wearing triplets and doublets in water.
Caring for your opal
As opal is the same hardness as glass we recommend removing your opal jewellery prior to any activity that may cause damage, in particular rings - playing sport, gardening etc. Ideally opal rings should not be worn every day to minimise the risk of damage. Triplet and doublet jewellery should always be removed prior to handwashing, bathing etc. Always check your opal ring for any movement and make sure claws and surrounds are secure.
